Byram Intermediate School offers graphic arts club
Stanhope When the Graphic Arts Club meets, the computer lab becomes a very busy place. This club is run by Mr. Wayne McGarva and Mr. Andrew Vogel, two teachers who share a hands-on philosophy. At each meeting, new skills are presented and the students follow their imaginations. The program, since its beginnings, has sought to expose students to a broad range of skills. Once the students are comfortable in the computer lab, the club branches out into digital photography, airbrushing and more traditional projects, which include block printing and rubber-stamping. Throughout the year, the instructors arrange for guest presenters to come in and teach their particular craft to the club members. Each student is encouraged to apply what they learn to activities they are interested in. Over the years, the club have expanded projects available to designing tee shirts, CD covers, refrigerator magnets, posters, and banners, the list keeps getting bigger. The club uses programs like Adobe Photo Deluxe to manipulate photographs, Microsoft Publisher to create posters for promoting Authors visits and school activities. One of the favorite activities is working multimedia magic with Microsoft PowerPoint. Break out the paints, the scissors, the computers, the printing blocks and break out of the mold with the Graphic Arts Club.
