'Cabaret' comes to Vernon stage

Vernon On April 7, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m., the curtain will rise on Vernon Township High School’s Production of “Cabaret.” With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Joe Masteroff, “Cabaret” is based on the stories of writer Christopher Isherwood and the play by John Van Druten. The scene is a night club in Berlin, as the 1920s are drawing to a close and Nazism is on the rise. The master of ceremonies, portrayed by Matt Chastain, welcomes the audience to the show Willkommen and assures them that, whatever their troubles, they will forget them at the cabaret. Ernst Ludwig, played by John Goritski, a young Berliner who appears to be in the smuggling business. Fraulein Schneider, portrayed by veteran Vernon High actress Chelsea Imbimbo, runs a rooming house. Sally Bowles, portrayed by Chelsea Marinaro, is a young English girl. Herr Schultz, played by Ryan McCotter, a newcomer to the Vernon Stage, who is courting Fraulein Schneider, is Jewish and the owner of a fruit shop. Fraulein Kost, played by Christina Comizio, is a tenant of Fraulein Schneider. Barri Weinstein directs; Kevin Boehm is vocal director; Dana Ziegler is choreographer and Max Taylor is pit conductor.
