Call to artists 60 and older

    NEWTON — Visual artists who are 60 and older are invited to submit up to three works of art for inclusion in an upcoming show called the New Jersey Senior Citizen Art Show. Professionals and nonprofessionals alike who live in Sussex County are eligible to submit work. The exhibit will be held at the Judicial Center’s Public Gallery in Newton from June 14 to Aug. 21. Only two-dimensional artwork is eligible and the artwork must have been created within the past three years. Eligible categories are: Acrylic, Computer Imagery (artwork created by computer only), Drawing (including ink, graphite, and markers), Mixed Media (which combines two or more media and includes collage and assemblage), Oil, Pastel (including chalk, charcoal and oil pastel), Photography, Print (such as etching, engraving, lithograph, woodcut, monoprint), and Watercolor (including gouache). Winners will be selected from entries in each category, in both professional and non-professional classes. First-place winners go on to compete in the New Jersey State Senior Citizens Art Show, which will take place in September at the Meadow Lakes retirement community (www.meadowlakesonline.org) in East Windsor. Only one entry per artist will be entered in the state competition. To participate in the show, the artwork and completed entry form must be brought to the Judicial Center Public Gallery on Tuesday, June 12, between 3 and 6 p.m. The gallery is located on the second floor of the Sussex County Judicial Center, 43-47 High St., Newton. All entries will be displayed in the gallery. There is hanging fee of $5 per piece.
