Carmeci presents ‘The Impotent Bystander'

    Newton - The Sussex County Arts And Heritage Council located on 9 Moran St. in Newton announces a special exhibit on awareness of child abuse by Dorian Carmeci titled The Impotent Bystander. Running from Thursday, November 9 - Sunday, November 26, this exhibit stresses the need for not only awareness but involvement in protecting our children from abuse. Dorian Carmeci is a local artist that works in woods, mixed media, and ink. She is also an accomplished poet. Her work is emotionally compelling and evokes strength and power. Carmeci’s work is based around the theme of healing from sexual and emotional abuse. A survivor herself, she includes her personal poetry along with mixed media to show a strong sense of her own experience. The exhibit will also include several live performance pieces. Her work was exclusively exhibited at Ginny’s House in Newton, for the past ten years. Farleigh Dickenson University’s voices exhibit and the clothesline exhibit sponsored by Newton’s Dasi Chapter. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 11 from 4-7 p.m. and will include live performances by the artist. The public is encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
