Newton - Christ Church will sponsor a sale of new and gently-used toys from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. The sale will be followed at 6 p.m. by a pasta dinner, which is open to the community. Proceeds from the toy sale and dinner will benefit Project Self-Sufficiency, a local organization which specializes in services for displaced homemakers, single parents and teen parents. Cost for the dinner will be $1. Prices for the toys will be similarly low. “The parishioners of Christ Church recognize that there are many people in our community who cannot afford to shop for new toys for their children at Christmas,” said the Rev. Robert Griner, Rector of Christ Church. “Many of these people also happen to be clients of Project Self-Sufficiency. We feel that Project Self-Sufficiency does a wonderful job of reaching out to women in our area and offering services which will help them to lead more productive lives. We want to do our part to help these women achieve their goals. This toy sale is just one of the ways that we can help.” Project Self-Sufficiency is located on Rte. 206 in Newton. Deborah Berry-Toon, executive director of Project Self-Sufficiency, welcomed the support of the church, remarking, “We are delighted that the parishioners of Christ Church have selected Project Self-Sufficiency as the beneficiary of this event. Our agency has become a success in large part because of the partnerships we have developed with other organizations in this community. This event is a perfect example of neighbors helping neighbors during a time when many people may feel disadvantaged or alone. We are grateful for the support of Christ Church and we are all looking forward to attending the toy sale and dinner.” The Toy Sale will feature a variety of items, including books, computer and video games, baby and toddler items, and things more appropriate for older children. Both the toy sale and the dinner will be held in the hall adjacent to the church, located at the intersection of Church St. and Rte. 206 in the heart of downtown Newton.
