Clay outing targets charitable cause

ANDOVER-Hudson Farm is home to 3,000 pristine acres, encompassing fields, forests, lakes, streams and waterfalls - and the country’s most extensive, fully electronic clay shooting facilities. The Sussex County estate hosted the fourth annual Sporting Clay Outing on Oct. 1 to benefit Project Self-Sufficiency. Open to men and women of all ages and skill levels, the event gave participants the opportunity to not only practice their clay shooting skills on one of the finest courses in the country, but to do so in a stunning natural setting rarely seen by the public. “Without Hudson Farm’s willingness to again sponsor this event, now in its fourth year, this fundraiser would not be possible,” said Deborah Berry-Toon. executive director of Project Self-Sufficiency. “The clay outing is truly a unique event,” added John Ursin, Project Self-Sufficiency board member and chair of the event. “Many of our participants have been coming since the first year.” Participants took part in a 100 clay disc shoot under the guidance of skilled coaches. Novices were teamed with experienced leaders to guide them safely through the course. Participants started the day with a country breakfast, and later enjoyed a lunch prepared by Nina and Mel Condit, gourmet caterers. A post-event cocktail hour with complimentary beer and wine was included, as were awards, door prizes, and an opportunity to participate in a charity auction.
