Comedy Cures: Donate some laughter

Going through a tough time? A good laugh may be exactly what the doctor ordered. Thanks to New Jersey's Saranne Rothberg, founder of Comedy Cures, a laugh, even in the darkest moments, is just a phone call away.
Comedy Cures is a 501(c)3 organization based on the premise that comedy can be a form of healing. Turns out there's some Science behind it, Founder Saranne Rothberg says. Rothberg is a New Jersey Rabbi who was divorced and raising her daughter alone when she found out she had Stage IV cancer. After finding out the news, Rothberg was driving home, with her daughter in the car, when Rothberg realized she had to keep her spirits up for her young daughter's sake. So she stopped at a grocery store that had videos, and she piled her cart with comedies. Although her prognosis at the time was glim, Rothberg indeed pulled through with a clean bill of health, feeling convinced that laughter had helped her.
She wanted to help others find out that comedy can cure, and she's made it her life's work ever since. Now she jet sets across the nation, and even world, to make TV appearances and to host shows. Her organization birthed "Laughing Lunch," which provides free, award-winning, therapeutic comedy for people who have chronic or acute illness, depression, or trauma, as well as for their caregivers and family. Famous comedians, as well as amateurs can call the line and hear a joke, or even record their own. It's a 24/7 service for free.
