Concert to benefit overseas troops
Jefferson - The Jefferson Arts Committee is hosting a “Concert for the Troops” at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, in the Jefferson Township High School Auditorium on Weldon Road. Funds raised and items collected at the concert will be sent to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan in time for the winter holidays. Donating their peformances are the young adult bands Shoot the Moon, She Could Be King, Elastic Pyramid, I Am a Ghost, Jungle Jazz Initiative and Enthrall. Admission is $5. Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase. Volunteers will be on hand to accept donations. Checks should be made payable to the Jefferson Arts Committee, Operation Iraq and Enduring Freedom, c/o Janet Breckenridge, P.O. Box 2604, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. The Committee is collecting the following items: baby wipes, bar soap, batteries, Beanie Babies, Blistex, disposable cameras, dental floss/picks, deodorant, disposable razors, dvds/cds, eye drops, hand-held games), Gold Bond powder, hand sanitizers and warmers, insect repellent, tissues, single-load laundry soap, liquid soap, lotion in tubes, mouthwash, magic markers, magazines,playing cards, paperback books, phone cards, shampoo, puzzles, Q-tips, socks (thin/white), shaving cream, shower shoes, tee shirts, sunblock, sunglasses, toothpaste, tampons, toothbrush, ziploc bags, Vaseline in tubes, stationery, and school supplies to be distributed by military personnel to schoolchildren in Iraq and Afghanistan Individual packs of non-perishable snacks, food and candy are also welcome. The committee is seeking names of Jefferson Township residents or the relatives of any township residents serving in Iraq or Afghanistan to be compiled by the committee in order to arrange for a package to be sent to them.
