Newton - Sussex County Community College will present a theatrical performance by Cornerstone Playhouse at 6:45 p.m. tonight (Thursday, July 6), as part of the “Thursdays on the Green” summer music and entertainment series. Cornerstone Playhouse will perform two one-act plays on the Connor Green, rain or shine. The performance is free and the public is invited. Guests are asked to bring their own blankets or chairs. The program will begin with I’m Herbert, by Robert Anderson. I’m Herbert is a sketch about two old people talking while sitting in their rocking chairs on a porch. Cornerstone will conclude with a scene from The Gin Game, by D.L. Coburn. The Pulitzer Prize winning tragicomedy details the relationship between a couple brought together on the porch of a run-down convalescent home. Cornerstone, known as the “Community Playhouse of Sparta,” has provided entertainment and performance opportunities to the community for more than 25 years. The company, based at the Lake Mohawk County Club in Sparta, presents three plays a year and draws audiences from Sussex, Warren, and Morris counties. All performances begin at 6:45 p.m. with the exception of Aug. 16, which will begin at 6 p.m. with a special program in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Thursdays on the Green series. Refreshments are available for purchase, with proceeds from concession sales benefiting scholarships at the college. For information, call 973-300-2120, or log on to sussex.edu.
