Wantage — As the Christmas story was read by candlelight outside the Church of the Good Shepherd Saturday night, onlookers were escorted along the way to see the live animals, sing carols and visit the manger. Nick Arnone served as a shepherd leading a shetland pony named Star around on a rope, who was made into a donkey for the event. Ashlee Autore and Ben Holley, both of Wantage, played shepherds while Louis Pieri of Wantage played the innkeeper. The manger also had a llama, goats and the three wise men along with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. Prayer requests were made as the candles were placed by the manger. The evening ended with free refreshments for all.
