The West Milford Players seeking a Scrooge WEST MILFORD — The West Milford Players are seeking a strong, hard working male 40+ years of age who doesn’t like pets, children, or the institution of marriage. He must hate holidays (especially Christmas — Bah, humbug) and have a strong disdain for the poor and needy. In other words, the West Milford Players are seeking the perfect Scrooge. On Monday, August 28, the West Milford Players will be holding a special one-day audition to find the ideal Scrooge for their upcoming musical production of A Christmas Carol. Auditions will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hillcrest Community Center, 1810 Macopin Road. Directors Diana Roth and June Downey have assembled most of the cast during auditions in June. However, they did not find a Scrooge. “We are looking for a strong character actor who can sing,” says co-director, Downey, “but beyond that, we need someone with the charisma and the talent to carry a show. Scrooge is on stage for almost the entire performance, it takes a special actor to embrace that kind of challenge. The musical production of A Christmas Carol has been playing in New York for the past ten Christmas seasons. The New York production was famous for putting big name actors such as Tim Curry and Patrick Stewart to carry the role of Scrooge. Directors Downey and Roth want to make sure that their Scrooge possesses that same type of star quality. “We know our Scrooge is out there. It’s a wonderful opportunity for an actor to challenge his talents and take on one of the most famous characters in literary history.” Anyone auditioning for the part will be asked to read from the script and perform a song to demonstrate their vocal range. Performance dates for the show will be November 10-12, 16-19, and 24-26.
