NEWTON-Ashley Kanaley, the daughter of James and Patricia Kanaley of Hainesville, was a featured artist at Kittatinny Regional High School in May. Kanaley's interest in art began while attending the Sandyston-Walpack Consolidated School. It has continued throughout several art courses offered at Kittatinny, including classes in two and three-dimensional media. Her work received 2nd Place, Pencil Award, at the Craftsman's Fair. She also received recognition as the Senior Artist in Crafts at the Sussex Arts and Heritage Council. Kanaley's exhibit featured thirteen works in a variety of art mediums including acrylic, pencil drawings, pen and ink, charcoal, and mixed media. Also featured was a clay figure, a plaster armature and an engraved foil journal. A member of the National Honor Society, Peer Leadership, and the International Club, Kanaley also works after school at the Bristol Glen Retirement Home. With a 3.8 grade point average, she will be attending Syracuse University in the fall, and hopes to find a future career in the field of art therapy.
