Gallery 23 announces Musicant and Marchant as Artists of the Month

Blairstown Judith Musicant and Catherine Marchant have been named as Artists of the Month for June at Gallery 23, Blairstown. Their work will be featured throughout the monthin the windows of the gallery. Musicant, a resident of Mountainside, creates functional stoneware pottery. Her work has been shown in juried exhibits at Peters Valley Crafts Center, Morristown Unitarian Fellowship Crafts Exhibition and the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts. “I work primarily on the potter’s wheel, but, because clay is so plastic and forgiving, I find it almost impossible to throw a symmetrical object and leave it at that,” Musicant explains. “I am forever poking, pulling, cutting or otherwise altering the thrown pot in some fashion. This is what creates a body of work that reflects my vision of what art for everyday use can offer to you.” Marchant, a resident of Westfield, specializes in hand-woven and knitted clothing and beaded jewelry. A trademark of Marchant’s art is bright colors and the inclusion of glittery threads and beads. “I want the people wearing my creations to stand out,” says Marchant. Gallery 23, an artist co-op, is located at 23 Main St., Blairstown. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
