German club takes first place

    STANHOPE-Members of Lenape Valley Regional High School's German Folk Club won high honors at the 74th Annual Poetry and Declamation Contest on April 14 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Led by German teacher Sandra Newcomer, Lenape's "Wilhelm Tell" team of Emily Domonkos, Tina-Marie Payne, William Blakeley, and Rebecca Lawson earned first place winner overall in the Advanced Division. Also in the Advanced Division, the "Faust" team of Roshni Shah and Molly Walsh took second place winner overall. In the Novice Division, "Kasper Puppet Theater"'s Dreux Ferrano, Connie Carpenter, and Amanda Rivera placed second, and "Max and Moritz"'s Angela Gargano, Stephen Stout, and Justin Hunts earned first honorable mention. Sponsored by the Rutgers University German Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, the Poetry and Declamation Contest showcases public speaking, dramatic, and singing skills of middle and high school students throughout New Jersey before an audience of peers, teachers, parents, and Rutgers students and professors.
