‘Guys and Dolls' on stage

Vernon — The Highland Stage will present “Guys and Dolls” on Aug. 1, 2, 8, and 9 at Vernon Township High School. Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy - soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters. Ashley Kraus of Vernon plays Sarah Brown, the upright and uptight mission dll out to reform the evildoers of Times Square. James McMaster of Wantage plays Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love. Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she’s been engaged to the same man for 14 years, is played by Kristin Tarczynski of Vernon. Nathan Detroit, Adelaide’s devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game will is played by Rich Albertini of Vernon. The rest of the cast is portrayed by Kaylee Black, Allison Boehm, Erin Caffrey, Joe Dans, Mike Easton, Katie Flynn, Kaitlyn Gallaugher, Denise Galuzzo, Katie Glowacki, David Grice, Melissa Harboy, Brooke Harrsch, Sean Higginson, Alexsis Hipper, Ashley-Maria Hipper, Rebecca Krieger, Blair Lanza, Miranda Logan, Amanda Losco, David Maglione, Meghan Maffetone, Emily McCambridge, Victoria Meneses, Elisabeth Montanaro, David Rolando, Victoria Ross, Nate Schadegg, Victoria Slockbower, Amanda Stilling, Nathan Stillings, Randy Stormes, Bobby Texel, Brandon Valdes, Luke Venskus, Madeline Venskus, Dylan VonderLinden, Zoe Vonder Linden, Kassidy Wagner, Viktoria-Leigh Wagner, Marissa Walker, Devin Welch, Catherine Whitman, Morgan Ziegler, Paige Ziegler and Shaelyn Zimmerman Musical is company’s Summer Youth Theatre Project The fast-paced book for the musical is by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling. Frank Loesser created the bright, brassy score, which takes the audience from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, and even into the sewers of New York City. Funny and romantic, “Guys and Dolls” appeals to audiences of any age. This musical represents the company’s annual Summer Youth Theatre Project. The show is directed by Heather Burns, musical direction is by Faith Anderson and choreography is by Renee Ziegler. Noelle Krynicky is the company stage manager.
