Harlem Wizards come to West Milford with tricks, hoops and ally-oops

West Milford - The Apshawa PTA, sponsored by Samman’s Electronics, is hosting a basketball extravaganza starring the Harlem Wizards. Their performance offers a combination of individual athleticism, teamwork, entertainment and community involvement. Theatrics, tricks, and alley-oops are part of the show and every game. Since 1962, the Harlem Wizards have played over 6,000 games in both the United States and abroad. The Harlem Wizards perform their events on many different courts and stages. Around the world, Harlem Wizards games are usually held in arenas, while they play celebrities, freestyle ballers and professional teams. In the U.S., the Harlem Wizards perform for schools, charities, colleges, corporations, communities and private events. Millions of dollars have been raised for non-profit community organizations and charities, while providing basketball entertainment. NBA Top 50 all-time selections Connie Hawkins and Nate “Tiny” Archibald have both played with the Wizards. Hawthorne Wingo, a Knick favorite developed his pro game for four years with the Wizards. Over 20 NBA players have played with the Wizards. Current Wizard Eric “Broadway” Jones is a former Harlem Globetrotter star and a world scholar athlete. Arnold “A-Train” Bernard, was featured in the NIKE Freestyle commercial, and was a seven-year Globetrotter before becoming a Wizard. Chris “Handles” Franklin also starred in the NIKE commercial, and is a trick dribbler. The team will perform tricks and play an actual game against the “Apshawa Hawkeyes” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, at the West Milford High School gymnasium. A family event, all are welcome to attend. Wizard apparel and a wide array of refreshments will be available for purchase during the event.
