High Point Regional High School art students show works at Emerging Artists' exhibit
Sussex - High Point Regional High School art students Kyla Richards and Jesse Lerch were selected by their teacher, Lance Sorchik, to participate in this year’s “Emerging Artists Exhibit and Competition” held recently at Kean University in Union. Lerch’s charcoal drawing, titled “Arborous Perspective,” was selected as one of five Merit Award winners. This was the 18th annual emerging artists exhibit, sponsored by the Art Administrators of N.J. The exhibit presents art work produced by high-school students who are studying art in schools throughout the state. The works are judged by professional artists, and awards of merit and honorable mentions are presented to the student artists. Award recipients are eligible to submit a portfolio of images and compete for the art administrators’ achievement award, in which one student will be selected to receive an additional cash scholarship and recognition as a governor’s award for excellence in visual arts in the spring. This year’s show includes work from 46 students from 29 high schools, representing 19 districts in 10 counties. School districts participating in the show include Bayonne, Bergenfield, Bernards Township, Bloomfield, Bridgewater-Raritan, East Brunswick, Englewood, High Point Regional, Jersey City, Livingston, Millburn, Montville, Orange, Patterson, Piscataway, Plainfield, Ridgefield Park, Ridgewood, and Union.
