Historical Society lists events

FRANKLIN-The Franklin Historical Society has listed the following events it is hosting for the remainder of 2005. An evening with “Eleanor Roosevelt,” a program conducted by Peter Osborne of the Minisink Historical Society will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the Immaculate Conception Lyceum, Church St., Franklin. William Truran will again be presenting the “History of Franklin Borough’s Railroads” and discuss the importance of the telegraph during the early 1900s. The program will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Immaculate Conception Lyceum on Church St. The program was specially scheduled since many people expressed regret at missing the first presentation at the Franklin Library, The Franklin Band, established in 1870, will celebrate the 135th anniversary of its founding in December. The history of the band will be documented in the next issue of the society’s newsletter. The band will perform its annual December Christmas concert at Franklin Elementary School to celebrate the anniversary. The Heritage Museum at 95 Main St. will be open through October for preview of the “Historic Timeline,” depicting Franklin’s past history. Timeline posters, books, and other articles are available for sale. Although the museum will close for the season Oct. 31, the Historical Society will again be sponsoring the “Festival of Lights” holiday tree-lighting contest in December. The Franklin Historical Soiciety meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month. Beginning with the November meeting, meetings will be held in the conference room on the second floor of the Franklin Municipal building until spring, when meetings will resume at the Heritage Museum.
