Historical society plans events
Vernon - The Vernon Historical Society is hosting a number of events in the upcoming year, including lectures and educational seminars that are open to the public. The society meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in the Senior Citizens Center at the rear of the Vernon Municipal Building on Church Street. At the September meeting, Sussex County Historical Society President Robert Longcore will speak on the topic Researching an Old House.’ Sam O'Dell, who has lived in Vernon all his life, featured speaker for October, will talk about Growing Up in Vernon.’ Newly elected Vernon Historical Society President Jessi Paladini welcomes the public to attend meetings and events. Other upcoming events include a Quilt Airing on Sept. 10 at the Historical Society Museum at the top of Barrett Road, a Tricky Tray at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Sept. 22. The Holiday Historic House Tour, which was a huge success last year, will again take place this December before the holidays. The society will also sponsor tours of High Breeze Farm, which is on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places, and special events at the Black Creek Native American Site, also on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places.
