| 28 Sep 2011 | 02:57

Sparta - Klezmerfest!, an outstanding klezmer band in the great Eastern European tradition, will appear in concert at 2:30 p.m., Nov. 13, at the Mohawk Avenue School, 18 Mohawk Ave., Sparta. The concert is being presented by the wider Jewish community of Sussex County. Klezmer is festive dance music, the joyous sounds of celebration from the old country, insuring that revelers reach ecstatic heights. Klezmerfest! celebrates the great tradition of yiddish instrumental music — from the shtetls of the old country to the contemporary sounds of today’s Lower East Side revival. Klezmerfest! has been delighting audiences for years at such venues as the Museum of Jewish Heritage, the Eldridge Street Project, the Knitting Factory, and synagogues and schools throughout the Northeast. The group is well known for its award-winning “Klez for Kidz” program. A special non-alcoholic cocktail party for sponsors will precede the concert at 1:30 p.m. Sponsors will be able to mingle with the musicians, enjoy cheese and crackers, receive a CD from the Klezmerfest! band, and help support the Jewish communities of Sussex County. The concert has been made possible in part through the generosity of the Mortgage Corner of Sparta and All American Crafts of Stanhope. Media sponsor is WSUS radio of Franklin. Sponsorships are $54; concert tickets $20, $15 for children under 12. Children age two and under admitted free. Advance ticket buyers will receive a $5 discount.
