NEWTON — "Sussex County's Hot Rocks" a presentation by geologist Jack Clark, will be hosted by the Sussex County Historical Society at the Hill Museum, 82 Main St., on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. This is a rare opportunity to see the rock specimens in the Hill Museum fireplace brought to life under a powerful shortwave ultraviolet light. The fireplace in the Society's Sussex County Room was built in 1922 from rock specimens donated by collectors and friends of the Museum and is one of the most unique features of the building. Every rock is of historic or geologic significance and almost all originated from Franklin and Ogdensburg and other Sussex County sites. Visitors are invited to cCome and discover the stories behind the fireplace rocks. Clark, of Sparta, is a longtime collector and geologist and has enjoyed a 28-year career in the museum field as a curator and executive director. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
