Japanese mime artist to perform March 4 at Sussex County Community College
Newton - Yass Hakoshima, Japanese mime artist, will present a program of “Kinetic Illusions” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, in the Sussex Bank Theater at Sussex County Community College. Hakoshima’s work is a fusion of East and West from childlike dreams, to the fatalism of Japanese theatre, to thought-provoking dramatic themes. Accompanied by unique sculptural props and masks and intriguing sound effects and music, Hakoshima transforms mime into a broad, exciting art of body-expression. Hakoshima received his training in mime and dance in Japan and the United States. He has appeared in more than 400 American cities and has been featured at international arts festivals around the world. “Mime is an art form that can provide both the artist and the audience with a distinct and unique dimension of communication,” said Hakoshima. “It offers something to people of all ages through simple and direct expression of thoughts and emotions. “At its best it gives the audience more than an evening of entertainment it gives them new visions into human behavior.” Admission is $5.
