Jazz guitarists in St. Patrick's Day gig at Warwick Winery
Warwick, N.Y. - Sugarloaf Music will host two of America’s most celebrated jazz guitarists in a special St. Patrick’s Day performance at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 17, ar the Warwick Valley Winery in Warwick, N.Y. Frank Vignola of Warwick and Gene Bertoncini, both of Italian descent, will include a few Irish pieces in their presentation. Bertoncini is one of the world’s most recorded jazz guitarists. This will be Vignola’s second appearance for Sugarloaf Music. Last October, his popular group, The Frank & Joe Show, performed before a sell-out performance in Sugarloaf, N.Y. Vignola has been described as “...one of the the most meticulous, versitile, and invigorating jazz artists in contemporary music.” His latest releases with Bertoncini and guitar legend, Bucky Pizzarrelli, have been favorably reviewed in many music publications. Vignola’s new DVD for Mel Bay Music is titled, Gypsy Guitar. The performance will be a homecoming of sorts for Bertoncini. He performed 23 years ago during Sugarloaf Music’s first season, with bassist, Michael Moore. The outdoor concert took place in the torrid summer heat of 1983. Steve Isreal, music columnist for the Times-Herald Record, described Bertoncini as one of the most sensitive, riviting, and masterful guitarists ever.” Bertoncini was February’s cover story in 2st Century Guitar Magazine.
