Jefferson Players to perform one-act plays in Milton next month
Milton - The Jefferson Community Players return to the stage next month with three one-act plays, starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at the Jefferson Township Senior Center, 54 Schoolhouse Rd., Milton (adjacent to the Milton Elementary School). A matinee performance will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 11. The final performance will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 16. The cast members are all participants of the Acting Workshop led by Jean Simonson of Lake Shawnee, who will direct all three plays. The plays consist of two comedies and a drama. Family Names, a comedy by Edna Pelonero, features Jefferson residents Christine Dour and Lynda Kolvik. Pizza: A Love Story, a comedy by Julianne Bernstein, features Jefferson residents Nina Fleishman, Thom Florio, Basker Gummadi, Christine Klecka, John Sacino and Brenda Schreier. Nothing in Common, a drama by Jennifer Fell Hayes, features Jefferson residents Christine Dour and Lynette Kelly. Simonson will direct all three plays. Family Names is the story of an attractive woman who visits a worker at a hardware store and announces that she is her husband’s mistress. The worker is not married, but has a brother of the same name. In fact, her large family has many identical names. The more questions the mistress asks, the more confused she becomes. Pizza: A Love Story is the story of a jittery girl who realizes that her boyfriend intends to propose marriage and can’t make up her mind whether to say yes. She uses several means to stall for time, including ordering a pizza to distract her boyfriend. Nothing in Common is a story about a successful business woman who is unable to bear children and offers to adopt the baby born to a young, single woman who cannot care for the child. The women meet to answer each other’s questions: “Will she make a good mother?” “What if she changes her mind? (Nothing in Common will not be performed at the June 11 matinee.) Ticket prices are $10 for adults; $5 for seniors (over age 65) and students with an I.D. Seating is limited and advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended. Soft drinks and snacks will be sold at a nominal cost.
