Lenape Valley trumpeter to play gig at Performing Arts Center

Stanhope - Robert Giglio, a junior at Lenape Valley Regional High School, auditioned and has been accepted into the N.J. Performing Arts Center’s “Jazz for Teens” program. He will join students from other high schools in February 2007 for intensive study of jazz, culminating with a May performance at the Performing Arts Center. Each year, the center identifies some of the finest young performers in the areas of vocal music, instrumental music, theater and dance. Students have the opportunity to audition for admission into numerous arts training programs designed to instruct and guide talented performers. The center’s arts education department, the fourth largest in the nation, is housed at the Lucent Technologies Center, a state-of-the-art facility adjacent to the center. Giglio began his musical career under the direction of Edward Cooke of the Byram Intermediate School. He took private lessons with John Maiello of Stanhope, and is now performing under the direction of Dominick Ferrara in Lenape’s marching, jazz, and concert bands. As a result of his auditions, Giglio has also been awarded a scholarship at the Newark School of the Arts and will begin the study of classical music, jazz, and music theory with Gregory Rivkin, master trumpeter.
