SPARTA - The children of Little Sprouts Day Care Center greeted celebrity reader, Linda Pinto, executive director of Knoll Heights and Knoll View in Sparta as she arrived to read to the children. “This has been a really wonderful experience,” Pinto said. “Reading stories to the children is a perfect marriage of my work with seniors and years as a school teacher.” She said the children and seniors are both young-at-heart and such a joy to interact with. Deborah Berry-Toon, Project Self Sufficiency executive director shares Pinto’s enthusiasm for the Celebrity Reader Program. “Linda Pinto is a wonderful role model of the benefits of early literacy and a love of reading,” she said. “She and her husband Ralph have made tremendous contributions to Sussex County and are long-term supporters of Project Self-Sufficiency. In fact, Linda was an original member of the task force that helped form PSS in the early 1980s; we wouldn’t be where we are today without her.” The Celebrity Reader Series began in October 2002 as a way for local celebrities and role models from the community to share their love of reading with families participating in the Event Start program and children enrolled at Little Sprouts.
