Local florists to give away flowers

Vernon —On Wednesday, Sept. 6, residents of Highland Lakes and Oak Ridge will have the opportunity to meet each other and develop new friendships when Highland Flowers and Gifts hosts its annual Good Neighbor Day event. Highland Flowers and Gifts of Oak Ridge and Highland Lakes will give away 2,000 flowers in bunches of a dozen, absolutely free to anyone who visits the shop, while supplies last. There is one catch, however, according to Lori Struck, owner of Highland Flowers and Gifts. Anyone who picks up a dozen free flowers will be asked to sign a promise to keep one of the flowers for themselves and give the others away to 11 different people—the idea being to spread goodwill and friendship in the community. “We hope that our customers will be able to get acquainted with new people or will renew an old friendship during FTD Good Neighbor Day,” states Lori Struck. “We hope to help create a friendlier, more caring and compassionate world, starting right here.” Last year, Struck gave away 1,000 roses for Good Neighbor Day from her Highland Lakes location alone. Now with an added store in Oak Ridge, she plans to double that amount. Visit either shop on Wednesday, Sept. 6th between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. for a free dozen roses!
