Local violinist, 9, plays Bach concerto at master class

Sparta - Sparta resident Kathryn Chamberlain, 9, performed a Bach concerto Feb. 9 for world-renowned violinist Peter Winograd at a violin master class sponsored by the JCC Thurnauer School of Music in Tenafly. She was one of nine participants, ranging in age from 7 to 14, selected by audition from across the state. The Thuranuer School presents a violin master class annually, each year choosing a different “master teacher” to preside over the performance/lesson. Winograd is a professor at the Manhattan School of Music and a member of the American String Quartet. Chamberlain participated last year as well, playing for Philip Setzer, violinist and member of the Emerson String Quartet. A fourth grader at Helen Morgan School, Chmberlain is a member of the Sussex County Prep Orchestra and the Rocking Strings, under the auspices of Sussex County Youth Orchestra. She is a past winner of the Sussex County Music Foundation Auditions for beginning strings, and has participated in recitals at both the Sparta United Methodist Church and the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show.
