STANHOPE-For those who missed the phenomenal Stanhope Centennial Celebration on Sunday, Oct. 3, there is another opportunity to view the styles of the Victorian era through fashion. On Wednesday, Oct. 13, Teresa Mankin of Teresa's Pennie Wise Décor will be the presenter for ‘An Evening At the Inn' at the Whistling Swan Inn, 110 Main St. in Stanhope. This is the third in a series of programs at the Inn that have been bringing local history to life. The presentation will be held in the parlor from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mankin designed over 35 vintage costumes and pulled together all the accessories for the recent Fashion Show and High Tea at the Inn which was a one of several programs to celebrate 100 years of Stanhope Borough. "I thoroughly enjoy sewing and creating 1800's, 1900's and turn-of-the-century women's clothing. I have always had a love for Victorian clothing." says Mankin. At the presentation, she will share the ideas, styles, accessories and attitude of the Victorian era. Several costumes vignettes will be displayed and modeled. Some of the highlights include bathing attire, a Gibson girl, a nightshirt, complete with slippers, cap, and candleholder, a boy's sailor suit, and a wedding gown. All outfits are complete with authentic accessories such as shoes, handbags, parasols, hats and gloves. Light refreshments will be served, seating is limited, and there is no charge for admission. Call the innkeeper, Liz Armstrong, to reserve at 973- 347-6369.
