Newton — Mark Egan, John Hart and Karl Latham will be recording two shows of creative modern jazz, on Fridays, May 18 and May 25, at Bula B-Lounge in Newton. These recordings will be part of a new live release by Unit One. With three platinum and three gold albums to his credit, bass guitarist Egan has recorded with the likes of the Pat Metheny Group, Sting, Arcadia, Roger Daltry and Joan Osborne; performed with the Gil Evans Orchestra, Marianne Faithful, David Sanborn, and John McLaughlin. In 1977 Mark joined the Pat Metheny Group and remained a long time member of the group. Egan has performed on the “Pat Metheny Group” recording with Danny Gottlieb, and Lyle Mays, as well as, the group’s recording “American Garage.” Through his association with the Pat Metheny Group, Mark teamed up with Metheny drummer, Danny Gottlieb and formed the group Elements. Elements is an experimental contemporary jazz group, and has recorded over eight full length albums and toured in over twenty-seven countries. While Egan continues to work with Elements and hold down the chair in the Gil Evans Orchestra, his solo projects represent a more personal side of his musical makeup. The other members of Unit One are guitarist John Hart and drummer Karl Latham. The music sets are 7 to 8:15 p.m. and 8:45 to 10 p.m. There is no cover charge, but a $10 minimum is required on music evenings. A student discount is available. Bula is a B.Y.O.B.
