VERNON-Each year a Senior Citizens' Prom is held at Glen Meadow Middle School as a way of recognizing and paying tribute to the township's senior citizens. Through the efforts of Vernon's School and Community Associations, teachers, faculty, staff, students, Girl Scout Troops, and local businesses, seniors were treated on Friday night, May 6 to dinner and dancing. Song and music were provided by the music department of Glen Meadow Middle School and Jeff and Val provided additional DJ entertainment throughout the evening. Seniors enjoyed the jazz of Dave Willer and friends as they entered the extravaganza. The labor-intensive gala was planned around a Mardi Gras theme. Placemats were created by students at Cedar Mountain Primary School. Mardi Gras masks were designed by Lounsberry Hollow Middle School fifth- and sixth-grade students. The Vernon Township High School photography department provided cameras and photographers to take souvenir pictures of the attendees. Members of Glen Meadow's Peer Leader and Builder's Club participated as servers and escorts and provided much of the manpower needed to make the event a huge success. Local restaurants and businesses provided the meal and the door prizes, while Peer Leaders and the Board of Education donated roses for each participant. The Senior Citizens Prom is one of many outreach programs available through the Vernon Township School District.
