Nature Conservancy opens ‘Natural Expressions' art exhibit

Newton-The Nature Conservancy of New Jersey Skylands office has created its first public art exhibit entitled "Natural Expressions," the art of Martin Zlotkin. Zlotkin lives and works in Bernardsville, .   He currently works with images of the natural world. He describes his work by saying, "The imagery is of the moment,of motion and of flows. I want the viewer to see the natural world in ways they've never seen before,to see with no preconceptions, to engage in a visual journey, to see more". Zlotkin has been involved in art since early childhood, beginning as a painter and later creating large-scale steel sculpture. In the last few years, he has turned to the manipulation of his photographic images. "Anyone can take a photograph," he says. "I make these images as I would a painting." As artist-in-residence at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., Zlotkin's prints are on exhibit at their Williams Visual Arts Center. This past November, Zlotkin was the featured artist for the New Jersey State Council of the Arts. His work will also be featured in the fall issue of "The Black River Journal," and this past June, he exhibited at The Flyway Gallery in the Meadowlands Environmental Center. His works are also in the permanent collections of Temple University, The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, and Piedmont Park in Atlanta. The public is invited to view Zlotkin's work through the beginning of October at The Nature Conservancy's Skylands Program office, located at 330 Route 206 South in Andover Township, just south of Newton. The Skylands office, celebrating its first anniversary, is open from 8:30-4:30, Monday-Friday. Plans are underway for additional exhibits by artists whose prime subjects feature the natural world.
