NEWTON — “What’s Up?” a popular culture art show arranged by curator Michael Hughes is on display at Sussex County Community College (SCCC) from Nov. 14 to Jan. 20. According to the college, the collection aims to produce deep thought within the viewer regarding today’s society, specifically the media and what is seen as popular. In its social statement, "What’s Up" historically compares William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and contemporary author Dan Brown. All were seen as popular culture at one point in time. The collection also makes subtle criticisms regarding the mass production in current times. An opening reception for the gallery was held on Friday, Nov. 18. The SCCC Art Gallery is located in the C building on the college's campus, 1 College Hill Rd. in Newton. For more information call 973-300-2100.
