Portraits of Italy by local artist on display at Tranquility Gallery
NEWTON Tranquility Gallery and Frameworks of Hamburg has announced the inclusion of works by local artist Jennie Traill Schaeffer, of Newton. Prints, drawings and oils depicting gelato, Tuscan landscapes and Sicilian laundry by Schaeffer will be on display through May 11 at 90 Route 23 in Hamburg. Schaeffer spent a semester living in Florence during art school and she cannot seem to get Italy out of her mind. It’s in her family, in her food, in her paintings and in her dreams. She is returning to Italy for the first time in March and plans to come back with fresh ideas for new works. Named “Best New Artist” at the 2006 Skylands Juried Show in Sussex County, Schaeffer is an emerging artist who has exhibited in the New York City metro area, with work located in a growing number of private collections and critically lauded by the Village Voice and published in the New York Times. Though known for her oil paintings of appliances and hand painted tiles of epicurean delicacies, Schaeffer frequently paints works with Italy in mind. For more information on Schaeffer’s work, visit her Web site, www.traillworks.com, or contact Judy Prolizo of Tranquility Gallery and Framework by phone at 973-209-2555 or via e-mail to sales@tranquilitygallery.com.
