Renowned Opera Company to play the Lycian

Sugar Loaf, N.Y. The Kings Theatre Company will present the Bulgarian State Opera’s performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s classic opera “The Marriage of Figaro,” at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf, N.Y. at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15. The Bulgarian State Opera, established in 1996 by Ivan Kyurkchiev, is based on the great traditions of the art of opera in Bulgaria and presents unique productions combining the best of the opera worlds of Bulgaria and all of Europe. The Bulgarian State Opera’s roster of distinguished singers, its impressive choir, ballet and orchestra, carefully selected from among the best Bulgarian musicians, singers and dancers, has obtained an interpretive maturity in many different styles. The members of the orchestra, choir and ballet were carefully selected from among the best Bulgarian musicians, singers and dancers. “The Marriage of Figaro” is the quintessential romantic comedy. A newly-married couple, a philandering husband and his beautiful wife, a lovesick teenage boy and a collection of long-lost relatives populate this story full of heartache, love, and laughter. Servants Figaro and Susanna are preparing to wed, but their philandering employer, Count Almaviva, wants Susanna for himself. In the meantime, the pageboy Cherubino is courting the Count’s wife while the Countess’ former governess, Marcellina, is wooing Figaro, and all are secretly scheming to win their heart’s desire. In the end, Figaro gets his bride, but Mozart leaves us to ponder whether love conquers all. This classic opera, performed with a live 40-piece orchestra and super-titles, is a light and amusing way to experience the artistry of opera without the cost and time constraints of transportation to and from Manhattan.
