SCCC to hold auditions for ‘Godspell'

    Sussex County — Sussex County Community College will be holding auditions for the musical, "Godspell," from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Thursday, Sept. 15, in the theater in Building D on the Newton campus. People wishing to audition should be ages 15 and up and should come prepared. First timers are welcome. Volunteer actors, musicians and technicians are needed. "Godspell," was an immediate hit when it opened in the spring of 1971 at an off-Broadway theatre. By 1973, productions opened around the world: Los Angeles, London, Paris, Washington, Toronto, San Francisco, Melbourne, Sydney, Hamburg, and Berlin. Several songs from the show, including Day by Day, became chart hits. The rock musical was written by then-college student John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz, of "Pippin," and more recently "Pocahontas," and "Prince of Egypt," fame. It went on to win rave reviews and a Grammy Award for Best Score. The musical will be under the direction of Peter Lubrecht and will run from Friday-Sunday, Nov. 18, 19 and 20.
