Seeger coming to Warwick

Warwick The Anarchist Orchestra, led by Pete Seeger’s grandson Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, will be performing on May 20 at the Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery as part of the Apple Blossom Music Festival weekend. Formed in July 2006, the band’s mission was to transform “old-time” mountain dance music into a psychedelic experience, drawing chiefly upon Appalachian and Cajun music. Rodriguez-Seeger, who has traveled the world playing music with his grandfather since 1989, co-founded The Mammals in 2001, with Ruth Ungar and Michael Merenda. He collaborated with Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion in the trio RIG and, more recently, with Roy, Tito & Tao, a Latin American group based in Puerto Rico featuring Roy Brown and Tito Auger. Laura Cortese, fiddler for the Orchestra, also has a busy career fronting her own band; Jake Silver, upright bassist, also tours with The Mammals; and drummer Robin MacMillan is the heartbeat of the Orchestra. The other performers on the line-up for the festival will include Red Molly; Stacey Earle and Marc Stuart; Kevin and Kate McKrell; Straight Drive; McMule; Master and Margarita; The Holmgren Brothers; Awry; and Marty Koppel. Doc’s Famous Hard Cider, wines, baked goods and oven-fired pizzas will be available, as well as an outdoor grill. Bring blankets and chairs; coolers will not be permitted. The event will be held rain or shine, with tents provided. Tickets $10 in advance or $12 at the door. The Warwick Valley Winery is located at 114 Little York Rd. in Warwick.
