So You Think You Can Dance' star Blake
McGrath to lead master class in Vernon Vernon - Blake McGrath, star of Fox TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” will lead a master class for local dancers on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and Feb. 25, at Simply Dance, located at 3 Church St. in Vernon. The class is being held under the auspices of the Muse Dance Company. Students may register at the studio or by calling 973-764-5150. McGrath says he is eager to visit dance studios to meet up and coming dancers and share the innovative techniques and creative styles that make his performances unique. He wowed both audiences and critics of “So You Think You Can Dance” by defying conventional dance techniques and movements. Throughout the show he displayed versatility in his dancing, and could go from classical waltz routines to an 80s disco performance without missing a beat. Before appearing on the TV show, McGrath established himself as a professional dancer in Los Angeles, beginning his career at age 17. He has danced with Britney Spears, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Destiny’s Child, Pink, Ashanti and other stars. He has also appeared in commercials for I-Pod, Gap, Old Navy and H & M. He danced in the Oscar award-winning movie, Chicago, and recently finished filming the newest musical-turned-movie, Rent. McGrath, now 22, is currently touring with Muse Dance Company, spreading his knowledge and passion for dance with others. He says he not only hopes to develop a strong sense of technique and style in his dancers, but his goal is to motivate them to achieve their dance goals as well.
