Sussex County Oratorio Society celebrates 60th anniversary

    NEWTON — “The Joy Continues” as the Sussex County Oratorio Society celebrates its 60th Anniversary on May 12 at 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Newton. The concert includes Dave Brubeck’s “To Hope! A Celebration," Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” from his Ninth Symphony, and Alessandro Scarlatti’s “Sing Loud with Gladness." Featured soloists for this concert include soprano Shannah Timms who again will be singing with the Oratorio and whose background includes the New York City Opera. Mezzo-soprano Mary Pat Finucane also continues as a soloist for the Oratorio Society. Finucane has sung with the National Opera, the Washington Opera and the Chicago Symphony. Louis Andres will be the featured tenor and bass will be sung by Raymond Vanderslice. On the Brubeck selection the soprano soloist will be Vicki Kopacka. Steven Williams will be featured on the organ. Tickets can be purchased from any Oratorio member or at the door.
