Tchaikovsky offered at Great Gorge

VERNON-The composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky will be the focus of the Chamber Music at Great Gorge concert on Friday, June 24 at 8 p.m. Tchaikovsky, who wrote, among many works, the well-known "1812 Overture" and the music to the beloved ballets "The Nutcracker" and "Swan Lake," showed his virtuosity as a romantic composer in his Piano Trio Opus 50, which will be performed by David Niwa, violinist, Eugene Moye, cellist and Gail Niwa, pianist. Niwa has become a favorite at Great Gorge, where his sister Gail Niwa is the artistic director. Also featured will be "Café Music" by American composer Paul Schoenfield. The other works on the program will be a movement from Messiaen's "Quartet for the End of Time" and one of the "Myths" for violin and piano by Szymanowski. Cellist Eugene Moye, principal of the American Symphony Orchestra and the Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra, has been called "one of the foremost cellists of his generation" by the New York Times. The concert will take place at St. Francis de Sales Church on Rte. 517 in Vernon. Tickets prices are $15 for adults, $10 for students/seniors and $5 for children under the age of twelve. General admission will be available at the door. The Chamber Music at Great Gorge Foundation, Inc., was created to provide the finest in classical music in northwest New Jersey through a series of chamber music concerts offered in Sussex County at affordable prices. The foundation hires first-rate professional musicians who have performed with leading orchestras or chamber music groups in the United States and abroad. It also sponsors a school outreach program in which musicians visit area elementary schools to perform for and interact with the students.
