JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — With the revitalization of swing music, the Silver Starlite Orchestra has become a real crowd favorite with audiences encompassing all age groups. The Jefferson Township Gazebo Committee is proud to present this acclaimed orchestra with their award-winning “Salute to America” program on Friday, February 10, 2006 on stage in the Jefferson Township High School Auditorium, 1010 Weldon Road in Jefferson Township, NJ. The Jefferson Township Community Band under the direction of Peter Tummillo will open for the orchestra beginning at 7:30 p.m. Founded in 1992, the band is open to all Jefferson Township residents as well as all Jefferson Township High School alumni who are interested in continuing their musicianship. They have been taking center stage under the stars on every Jefferson Township Day for many years. The Silver Starlite Orchestra musicians will then take the stage under the direction of their founder Dot Cacchio. The 19-piece orchestra has kept to that authentic “Big Band formula.” Not only will they perform the music of the 1940’s and World War II, but also many favorites from the big band era and Frank Sinatra. As an added attraction, the audience will be treated to The Silver Starliters — Michael A. Yannuzzi, Cheryl Slegers, Nancy Harm, and Shirlane Cole. This four-member singing group brings back the sound of the famous singing groups of the 40’s that performed with bands such as Tommy Dorsey or Glenn Miller. In fact, Yannuzzi, Harm, and Cole are alumni of The Jefferson Community Players. Concert tickets are $10 per person, and reserved tickets are available by calling 973-697-3828. Any remaining available tickets will be sold at the door one hour before the show. Veterans are encouraged to come in their uniform (or just the hat if it’s the only part that fits!) to be recognized during the orchestra’s Military Medley.
