Hardyston — The Sussex County YMCA, located at 15 Wits End Road in Hardyston, will once again be collaborating with St. Clare’s Hospital to provide helpful and informative health seminars to the residents of Sussex County. In coordination with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the YMCA will be hosting a special seminar with guest speaker Maureen Lockwood, Coordinator of Breast Services at St. Clare’s Women’s Health Center, on Friday, Oct. 13 at 11:30 a.m. This seminar, which is part of the YMCA’s Active Older Adults Program, will provide general information on breast cancer, including an informative video presentation and interactive tools for demonstrating how to detect a cancerous lump. “The risk factor for breast cancer is significantly higher for women ages 60 and older, which is why it is absolutely essential that older women know how to detect early signs of breast cancer,” said, Joanne Browne, senior program director at the Sussex County YMCA. “Only through proper yearly screening mammograms, clinical examinations and monthly self-examinations do you have the best chances of detecting cancer early.” This event is open to the public and no reservations are necessary. Light refreshments will be served. For more information on Active Older Adult programs, call the Sussex County YMCA at 973-209-9622.
