Three steps to surviving a disaster is topic of Red Cross class
NEWTON - The Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross will be showing county residents how to survive a disaster in three easy steps this Saturday when it offers its new “Be Red Cross Ready” disaster planning workshop with morning and afternoon sessions at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Sussex County Community College as part of its Disaster Training Weekend for volunteers and the general public. “It’s important that county residents be prepared for possible disasters and other emergencies. Natural or human-caused disasters can strike suddenly, anytime and anywhere. There are three actions everyone can take that can help make a difference, and our Be Red Cross Ready workshop on Saturday, March 10, will cover them in detail to maximize the health and safety of our residents who attend,” said Pat Day, Executive Director of the Sussex County Red Cross. The Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors in emergencies. Each year, hundreds of residents from around the county gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and in the world. Gifts and donations to Sussex Red Cross are re-invested in programs and services right here in Sussex County. The Red Cross is not a Government agency, but must rely on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work -- across the street, across the country, and around the world.
