Town criers to converge on Newton festival

    NEWTON-The North American Town Crier Competition and Fall Festival will take place from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 on Spring Street in Newton (Rain Location - Halstead School, Newton). The contest commemorates the Newton's 140th Anniversary and the 175th Anniversary of The New Jersey Herald. Town Criers from around the USA, Canada and Bermuda will come to compete in this one-of-a-kind event. The organizers are seeking vendors, crafters, farm produce, food vendors, and non-profit organizations to run booths at the event. There will not be a charge for participating vendors. Spring Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the event, which is hosted by the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce, Newton Public Schools and the New Jersey Herald.
