Valedictorian chosen at Lenape Valley
STANHOPE-Jill Carey, the eighteen-year-old daughter of John and Gloria Carey of Byram Township, has been named valedictorian of the Class of 2005 at Lenape Valley Regional High School. Carey's activities included being editor-in-chief of the yearbook, acting in the theatrical productions, and participating in the Interact Club, the Peer-2-Peer organization, the foreign language club, the gifted and talented club, and the class council. She has played the piano for eight years, and has taken gymnastics for eleven years. She also volunteers at Merry Heart Nursing home, where she plays piano for the residents. Her other honors include receiving the English Achievement Award, the Math and Science Award from the Society of Women Engineers, the Seely Flags Award for Outstanding Commitment to a Publication, the Senior Spotlight Award in Academics, and the Most Valued Member Award for the Interact Club. Carey is a Distinguished Scholar, maintaining the high honor roll every marking period, and is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, and the Music Honor Society. She was the Star Ledger Scholar nominee from Lenape Valley, as well as the National Honor Society Scholar nominee. She also was one of 500 students nationwide to receive the Elks Lodge "Most Valuable Student" scholarship. Carey will be attending Lafayette College in the fall as a mathematics major, where she is distinguished as a Marquis Scholar.
