Vernon Township's Earthfest' celebration set for April 30
Vernon - Vernon’s “Earthfest Celebration Day” will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, at the PAL Building, located at 21 Church St. Registration forms for the annual Earthfest art contest, sponsored by the Vernon Chamber of Commerce, were delivered to the Vernon schools today for distribution to grades one through six. The theme of the art contest is “Visions of Vernon.” Each child’s vision can be expressed in a poster, diorama, or whatever medium the child’s imagination can provide. Registration forms should be returned to homeroom teachers no later than April 5. This year’s prizes include a $150 cash prize donated by Linda Kroeger-Wilson of Re/Max Properties Unlimited; a $100 cash prize donated by Fred J. Wilson of A.G.Edwards & Sons; and an unlimited season ski pass for next season at Hidden Valley. “What makes the contest so much fun is that the public votes, just like American Idol,’ said Kroeger-Wilson. “So it pays for the kids to bring their friends and family.” The grand prize last year was won by a painting of a stream and foot bridge. A model of the Glenwood Mill won second prize. Third prize was a “sweet” example of a lake community in Vernon, an edible diorama titled, “Candy Lake.” “It looked luscious with its blue Jell-o lake, pretzel dock, marshmallow snowmen and many other yummy features,” said Kroeger-Wilson.
