Walpack Inn new home for jazz program
Walpack - Jazz has a new home in Sussex County. Starting June 15th, the historic Walpack Inn in Walpack Center will be home to the jazz program coordinated for six years by Sussex County resident and drummer Karl Latham. The program in its former home featured numerous internationally acclaimed performers, Grammy winners, Platinum and Gold Record holders including such prominent jazz stars as Mark Egan, John Lee, Don Braden, Nick Rolfe, Ed Cherry and locally acclaimed performers such as Karl Latham and B.D. Lenz. Jazz will be in The Walpack Inn every Friday from 8 to 10 p.m. throughout the summer and upcoming performers include Unit One with Mark Egan and John Hart, B.D. Lenz, Karl Latham, John Hart, Zan Stewart and many others. Shows start June 15 with B.D. Lenz, called one of the Top 20 “up and coming” jazz musicians of New Jersey by the Newark Star-Ledger, and recently featured in the New York Times. The guitarist has played since the age of 14. Besides his own project, Lenz has recorded and performed with artists such as Randy Brecker, Mark Egan, Richie Cannata, Mark Ledford, Ada Rovatti, Greg Federico, Jeff Callahan, John Virag, Kathy Phillips, and Ron Velosky among many others. B.D. will be joined by bassist Kermit Driscoll (Bill Frisell, John Zorn, Ben Monder) and Karl Latham. Upcoming performers include Zan Stewart, June 22, The Stein Brothers June 29th and Nick Rolfe July 6th.
