LAKE HOPATCONG-Residents are asked to obey all parking, exiting, and parade drop-off procedures on the 19th annual Jefferson Township Day, which will take place on Saturday, July 9. The celebration will begin with an 11 a.m. parade along Weldon Road, and end on the fields of the Jefferson Township High School (1010 Weldon Road). At that time, there will be no parking along Weldon Road or Sparta Mountain Road, or in the Jefferson Township High School parking lot. When the parade is over, parking will be allowed in these areas. Drivers must exit towards Lake Hopatcong if they park in the following areas during the day and evening events: at the Jefferson Township Middle School parking lot, SnoBowl (adjacent to the school), and along Weldon Road (after the parade). All vehicles parked west of the high school driveway must face towards Rte. 15. Please follow the directions of the Roxbury Police Department's Explorer Post. Drivers must exit towards Milton/Oak Ridge if they park in the following areas: at the Jefferson Township High School, along Weldon Road (after the parade), or at the municipal building, the Creative Playground, and the Department of Public Works parking lots. All vehicles parked east of the high school driveway must face towards the Dover-Milton Road. However, after the fireworks, those vehicles parked in the municipal building and the Department of Public Works parking lots will exit towards Ridge Road via Sparta Mountain Road. No vehicles from these lots will be permitted to exit onto Weldon Road. No u-turns will be allowed on Weldon Road at any time during the festivities. Vehicles must leave in the direction they are facing. Specific drop-off procedures will be in effect on July 9 for the 11 a.m. parade along Weldon Road. The entrance to the Municipal Complex will be closed off at 8 a.m. Parents who wish to drop off their children and anyone wishing to drop off parade participants should use Sparta-Mountain Road to the entrance to the Department of Public Works/Recycling Center. Follow the signs to the rear of the Municipal Complex, and participants can be dropped off at the north end of the municipal lot. Drivers will be driving back out the way they came. Volunteers will be assisting with the traffic flow. Please comply with their instructions. Only parade participants with parking permits will be allowed to park in the Department of Public Works lot. Weldon Road will be closed to all traffic, from the Middle School down to Headley Lumber, at 10:30 a.m. for the parade. Only authorized vehicles will be allowed on the road after that time. In addition, there will be no parking all day long in the schoolbus compound off Weldon Road, as it is the fireworks safety zone. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages, drugs, animals (including leashed pets of any kind), bicycles, or fireworks will be permitted on the school grounds at any time during Jefferson Township Day, at day or evening events. Strict security measures will be in effect per order of the Jefferson Township Police Department. No large coolers and no backpacks will be allowed on the fields. Small coolers and bags will be allowed, but subject to a search. Police officers will be stationed at all entrances to the fields, beginning at 6 p.m. until closing. Those not adhering to these rules will be asked to leave the premises immediately.
