BYRAM TWP — For the past 16 years, the Las Vegas based Wild West Arts Guild has been a staple at Wild West City in Byram Township, where it annually holds its East Coast Get Together. Many of the art guild’s 500 members plan to gather at Wild West City the weekend of July 15-16 for two days of rope tricks, tomahawk throws, whip cracking and other western “arts.” The group’s activities are part of the all-inclusive admission price to Wild West City. The organization has published four books on western arts and three of its members hold world records for Biggest Rope Loop for Men and Biggest Rope Loop for Women, and Texas Skips. “This is a fantastic organization that truly brings out the special things about the old west,” said Michael Stabile, Jr., owner of Wild West City. “It’s really amazing to see what they can do with the tools of their trade.” Originally opened in the 1950s, Wild West City was conceived as a re-creation of Dodge City, Kansas. The city features a broad main street lined by hitching rails, old wooden sidewalks and storefronts and exhibits that allow one to re-live the old west. A day at the park features a host of shows and stunts as scenes from the old west, such as the Shootout at the OK Corral. The park also includes an authentic one-room school house. Wild West City is open daily through Labor Day and then weekends until Columbus Day. Call 347-8900 or visit www.wildwestcity.com.
