Byram — Cowboys past and present will be honored at Wild West City’s annual “Tribute to the American Cowboy” on Saturday Aug. 19. All “Tribute to the American Cowboy” activities and shows are free with the regular price of admission. Wild West City is celebrating its 50th anniversary season and this year marks the 18th annual “Tribute to the American Cowboy,” an event that showcases all current and veteran Wild West City cowboy actors as they come together once more to perform, compete and pay tribute to fans and colleagues. The cowboys will spend the day displaying their western arts skills and portraying historic and legendary characters of the old west. “This is a labor of love for these entertainers,” said Wild West City owner Michael Stabile. “It’s a day of reunion, reminiscence and commemoration. It’s also a lot of fun, for the cowboys and the crowd. It has always been one of our most popular days of the season.” First opened in the fifties, Wild West City was originally conceived as a re-creation of Dodge City, Kansas. The city features a broad main street lined by hitching rails, old wooden sidewalks and storefronts and exhibits that allow one to relive the old west. A day at the park features a host of shows and stunts as scenes from the old west, such as the Shootout at the OK Corral. The park also includes an authentic one-room school house. Wild West City is open daily through Labor Day and then weekends until Columbus Day. For more information about Wild West City, call 347-8900 or visit www.wildwestcity.com.
